Four Solos for Family is a suite of four marimba solos dedicated to my sister, brother, mother, and father. The work can be performed in full or any solo can be performed individually. Each solo mirrors the complexities within every person and family through a wide variety of contrasting tempos and technical and tonal ideas. The first solo, Soft Wind, Morning Dew, was written for my older sister, Talia. The Hebrew translation for Talia, “dew of G-d”, was the inspiration for this title. The composition reflects both the physical and intellectual attributes of Talia in a way that can only be explained through music.
